John Tyler Signed Attractive Naval Commission

One page Document Signed by President John Tyler as "John Tyler," 13.75" x 17." Washington, "September 9, 1841." On vellum. Lovely engraving to the top depicting an American Eagle in flight holding an olive branch in its talons, with the lower engraving depicting Naval war weapons. Affixed to the lower center is a 3" white saw toothed seal of the Department of the Navy. Soft creasing with faint toning, else near fine.

An ornate Naval Commission, appointing Enoch G. Parrott as a Lieutenant in the Navy. This Naval Commission was only the start of a long and illustrious career for Parrot, who became Lieutenant by 1841, Commander 1861, Captain by 1866, Commodore in 1870, and Rear Admiral in 1873.

An attractive Naval commission in lovely collectible condition.

Of additional interest is that we are also auctioning a President Martin Van Buren signed Naval appointment for Enoch Parrott to the position of Passed Midshipman in the Navy, the early start to his career, see lot 243.
