Description:

John Quincy Adams franks a letter for his nephew who reports "There is little talked of here, except Texas, and there was a rumor that the treaty was to be sent to the senate to day...."

JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1767-1848) His franking signature "J. Q. Adams," immediate above a red "FREE" stamp, accomplished on the integral address panel of an Autograph Letter Signed by his nephew, Isaac Hull Adams (1813-1900), "I.H.A.," 3 pages, 8" x 10", Washington, March 25, 1844, addressed to the correspondent's cousin, Caroline E. Bartlett, in New York. Expected folds, minor loss from seal tear, not affecting text, else fine.

The letter reads in part: "...Mrs. John Adams [Louisa Johnson Adams] desires me to ask you if you would be kind enough to do her the favour of getting her the following piece of music, (which she cannot procure ere) and enclose it by mail under cover to Uncle Adams, or if you think it too large would you ask Mr Bartlett if he would have it sent by Hamden's express... The music can be procured at Hayer's near the Astor House and is from the 'Opera of Le Compte Ory' Duo. No 8 and commences 'Ah quel respect madame.' If Miss Sprague is in Broadway, perhaps she would be kind enough to get it..."

He then goes on to discuss current events observing that "There is little talked of here, except Texas, and there was a rumor that the treaty was to be sent to the senate to day...."
