Kennedy John 1917 - 1963 John Kennedy signed warm family photo depicting the days of Camelot

Chromogenic print of the Kennedy Family on Easter Sunday, April 14, 1963, by Cecil William Stoughton. Signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint, by President Kennedy as "For Violet Gasper / With best wishes / John Kennedy" with the date of 9/22/63 added in another hand." Stamped on verso: "Reproduced by U. S. Army Photographic Agency Washington 25, D. C." insignificantly Faded in typical fashion, and buckled. Provenance: Violet Gaspar (with her note on verso "Signed at Summer White House Hammersmith Farm, Sept.22 1963".

A spectacular photo taken by Stoughton, who greatly contributed to the public image of the Kennedy family. He had special access, and was in the unique position to capture the poignant moments that no other photojournalist could. This example in particular is arguably one of the most popular family photographs ever taken during the Kennedy Administration. In this captured moment, the Kennedy family is seen as the idealized happy family, reminiscent of what Americans aspired to, and ultimately what became termed as the era of "Camelot". A young couple, in a lovely setting with their innocent children. In this intimate photo, John Kennedy appears as both a personal family man while at the same time as the gracious Commander in Chief. The photo was taken while President and Mrs. Kennedy are seen leaving church with their children John Jr. and Caroline following Easter Mass while vacationing in Palm Beach, Florida, 1963.

An exceptional signed photo of the Kennedy family. It is overwhelming to hold and view the photo knowing that this entire scene, the family's lives, and the political period of the nation would come to an abrupt end when just a few short months later on November 22nd Kennedy was assassinated.

With provenance from the direct recipient, Kennedy insider Violet Gaspar.
