Description:

Glenn John

A lovely signed and inscribed photo of John Glenn as Senator, with the American flag off to the left, 8" x 10". Neatly signed in pen by Glenn as "Best regards / to Janine / JA Glenn Jr". Near fine with a strong crisp signature.

Glenn resigned from NASA on January 16, 1964, and announced his Democratic Party candidacy for the U.S. Senate from his home state of Ohio the following day.  He was elected and held that position from December 1974 to January 1999.

Famed American astronaut John Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth aboard "Friendship 7" in 1962. In the five hours of his flight on February 20, 1962, Glenn joined a select roster of Americans whose feats have seized the country’s imagination and come to embody a moment in its history; figures like Lewis and Clark, the Wright brothers, and Charles Lindbergh. His famous flight had its breath-holding moments, however. A prior scheduled 30-minute test to determine whether Glenn could fly the capsule manually became a matter of life and death when the automatic system went out at the end of the first orbit.
