1st edition copy of Four Forsyte Stories signed by its author John Galsworthy (1867-1933) as "John Galsworthy" on the half title page. Published by Fountain Press (New York) and William Heinemann, Ltd. (London), 1929. Marked "Out of series" out of 896 copies.


Hardcover with red boards, quarter black cloth, gilt stamped spine, and no dust jacket. Pictorial full title page and headpieces in Deco style. In near fine condition. Spine and top of book show minor fading. Isolated light foxing to back endpapers and minor corner rubbing. The 8vo book measures 5.875" x 9.5" x .75" overall.


Four Forsyte Stories runs 112 pages and includes four short stories: "A Sad Affair" about a son's college debts; "Dog at Timothy's" about an adopted Pomeranian; "The Hondekoeter" about a Dutch still life; and "Midsummer Madness" about a short-lived romance.


British novelist John Galsworthy is best remembered for The Forsyte Saga, a collection of novels and stories written between 1906-1921.  Galsworthy's portrayal of the Forsytes, a dysfunctional nouveau riche family living in Edwardian London, captivated readers. A social critic, Galsworthy wrote many other works of fiction that drew attention to social issues like domestic violence, animal rights, and prison reform, among others. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1932.
