The wonderful photo depicts President Kennedy and Caroline who is sitting on the arms of his chair while aboard the Honey Fitz at Hyannis Port. The photo was from a set taken by Cecil Stoughton, with other photos taken during that session appearing in the archives on the John f. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum website. Stoughton's unique pencil notes appear on the verso of the photo as C250-34-63.

Cecil Stoughton took this photo during the summer of 1963 at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis port - during shortly before the birth of Patrick Kennedy, and only months before President Kennedy's assassination.

A warm photo from a very personal, very happy family summer in the life of President Kennedy and his family. The Kennedy Compound consists of three houses on six acres of waterfront property on Cape Cod along Nantucket Sound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. With the family’s love of the sea, the President’s summer weekends always included time out on either a sailboat or a yacht cruise. President Kennedy, like his mother, found great restorative power in simply walking alone (trailed by Secret Service agents) along the beachfront. As he remarked,  “I always come back to the Cape and walk on the beach when I have a tough decision to make. The Cape is the one place I can think, and be alone.” President Kennedy used the compound as a base for his successful 1960 U.S, presidential campaign and later as a summer White House and residential retreat until his assassination in November 1963.
