JFK's The Black Watch: Original 1st Gen. Tapes From The Last Happy Day at the White House! Ex. Evelyn Lincoln, Robert White
Other
Two reel-to-reel first generation tapes in their original boxes, with program from the event adhered to the inside the lids, and two cassette tapes of the performance from the "Last happy day" at the White House on November 13, 1963. These tapes are from the Kennedy family's last public appearance prior to the assassination and originated from the collection of Evelyn Lincoln, Kennedy's personal secretary. In fine condition with some toning to tapes, and glue marks on inside where the programs are attached, best to see photos for condition. The tapes measure 7.25" x 7.25."

While these tapes are not of the same importance, it is worth noting, and aside from that, a great story, that in 1976 a NASA intern purchased the original Apollo 11 reels for .19 cents. Three of those reels, found to be the only first generation recordings of the Apollo 11 moonwalk sold for 1.82 million in 2019.

Provenance:
Evelyn Lincoln
Robert White Collection, Guernsey's March 1998 John F. Kennedy auction, lot 160, where it sold for $1840.

On a significant evening at the Kennedy White House, "The Black Watch" performed in a display of Scottish tradition. The regiment, in their dark tartans, marched with precision across the South Lawn. The rhythmic cadence of their drums and the melodies of the bagpipes filled the air, creating an atmosphere of solemnity and celebration. Guests, including diplomats and dignitaries, stood in awe as the performance evoked the highlands of Scotland. President Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline welcomed the guests, symbolizing international friendship and cultural appreciation. This event marked the last public appearance of the Kennedy family together, underscoring its poignant historical significance. The evening was a reminder of shared histories and enduring alliances, reflecting the Kennedy administration's commitment to global unity and cultural diplomacy.
