Description:

Kennedy John

JFK’s personally owned and monogrammed large duffel bag, which was later used by Jackie and Carolyn!

Rarely does one encounter a Kennedy relic which is so personal, and also so well documented, including having the martyred president’s initials prominently displayed.  As we all know, a duffel bag is an item of luggage that is very multipurpose, and this bag shows tremendous wear, although still in great condition, due to its high quality.  We know from the tag that reads “Mrs. A. Onassis” that this was used after JFK’s death by both Jackie and Carolyn, and we don’t doubt that it was also used by John-John, although there is no evidence at present to support that. If only this bag could talk!

John F. Kennedy personally owned and used beige colored canvas duffel bag, measuring approximately 26" x 16" x 11".   The initials “JFK” appear on a leather nametag, sewn to the front of bag, featuring a pair of carrying handles and two large zippered compartments and safety locks, one bearing an attached name tag for “Mrs. A. Onassis” with an unknown hand adding “Caroline Kennedy, 1040-5th Ave, N.Y.C.”.  The respective ends of the bag feature an additional zippered pocket and a third carrying handle.

Accompanied by fantastic provenance – in part:  “Back in the mid 1980’s my ex was Jackie Kennedy’s masseuse. Jackie gave my girlfriend some clothing and put the clothes in the canvas bag so that they could be carried home.  My girlfriend gave me the bag and I put it away in a closet where in (sic) stayed for about thirty years.  I found it when cleaning out the closet and decided to put it to auction. Best, David Prentice”.
