Description:

JFK Assassination Fantastic Eyewitness Account by Texas Congressman

Two page typed letter signed on letterhead of "Congress of the United States, House of Representatives, Washington, D.C.", 8.5" x 11". Dated "August 9, 1995", and signed by Henry Gonzalez, "Henry Gonzalez", Member of Congress.
Near fine with expected folds.

A fascinating eyewitness account by Henry Gonzalez, a Democratic politician from the state of Texas, who represented Texas' 20th congressional district from 1961 to 1999 and rode in President Kennedy's motorcade in Dallas on November 22, 1963. He recalled that he rolled down the window as his car neared the Texas School Book Depository, then heard three distinct shots during the assassination. González's car proceeded to Parkland Memorial Hospital where upon seeing a blood-caked bouquet of roses in the rear of the presidential limousine he initially believed Jackie Kennedy had been shot.

According to a 1992 report, González did not rule out the possibility of shots other than the three he heard were fired from a silencer.

In this letter, Gonzalez discloses his apprehension before and during the day of the assassination, noting "I had traveled with President Kennedy from Washington on his trip to Texas, and along the way had enjoyed the opportunity to receive a very warm and moving reception with him in my home city of San Antonio. I had, however, been apprehensive about going to Dallas all along, and had even tried to delete Dallas from the agenda… this was because of the climate of intolerance and hate that was pervading in Dallas at that time… My apprehension was still just as great when we began the motorcade in Dallas. A few minutes later my worst fears were realized when I heard gunfire…"

An important and insightful letter from an eyewitness account by this Texas Congressman.
