Description:

James Cagney Three Signed Items: Letter, Postcard, and Christmas Card

A group of three signed items from Academy Award-winner, Jimmy Cagney, to his friend Ann Ford. The correspondence and friendship span at least thirty years and showcase Cagney's comedic personality. Included are the following:

1. June 8, 1940, Stanfordville, New York. Postcard. Addressed to Ann Ford and signed "Jim C." In full: "There was a man in our town who'd grab himself by the hair o' the head and hold himself out at arm's length. You don't believe it? It was your own Uncle Tim!! Well he might, says you! More of the same another time."
2. N.d., no place. Christmas Card. Addressed to Ann Ford and signed twice as "Jim C." and "J." With a printed message on the front, and a handwritten note on verso reading in part: "A bit late! Discovered the stationer lad left out the F.s in the list I put him. Also discovered one "o" whose an "e"…In any case a Merry New-Year to you and your clan. More any minute!"
3. August 11, 1970, no place. 2pp. Addressed to Ann Ford and signed "Jim C." Providing recent news and details of his life, in part: "I left your note with the songs in it on my desk at Verney. I do recall 'Don't Take Me Home' being one of them. I had been talking about that song just a day or so before your note came. Strange! Things have been rather hectic here…Miserable day today. Heavy wind & rain…Must be the same in Boston. You are heading for Goss Hill tomorrow. I'll be in touch with you there and we'll see what we can cook up…"

With a pencil notation on the letter in an unknown hand, "Thought you and J would enjoy Cagney - return please." Mail folds to the letter and some faint toning. Minor toning to the postcard. A few small spots of soiling throughout. Bold signatures on all, very good.
