Provenance: From the Estate of Luella Hennessey-Donovan. Luella Hennessey-Donovan was a nurse and governess to the Kennedy family for more than 50 years (1935-1963). She lived in England with the Kennedy family while Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. was ambassador to that country, caring for Robert and Edward. She tended to John F. Kennedy after his back surgery and to Senator Edward Kennedy after he broke his back in a plane crash just outside Springfield in 1964. She was present at the births of 26 of the Kennedy grandchildren. She was also the founder of the Kennedy-Donovan Center, Inc., a service organization for Massachusetts residents with developmental disabilities.
