Description:

Kennedy Jacqueline

Lovely Jacqueline Kennedy autographed letter on her personally hand-painted decorative floral stationery with Hyannis Port, Massachusetts letterhead, 5.75" x 7.5". Penned entirely in the hand of Jacqueline to which she includes her lovely hand-painted florals to the stationery sheet and a soft ocean inlet watercolor scene to the envelope. Jackie writes to the caretaker of the Kennedy's children, "Luella". Dated "August 15, 1966", and affectionately signed by Jacqueline Kennedy as "We all love you / Jackie". Near fine with center fold. Accompanied by the matching stationery envelope, 6" x 4", hand addressed by Jacqueline to "Miss Hennessy". Opened neatly along the flap. Envelope with light glue stains to bottom and flap edge, else near fine. The lot includes a newspaper clipping discussing John Jr's operation entitled "John Jr., Tonsils Part Company".

Jacqueline Kennedy pens a lovely gracious thank-you letter to the caregiver of their children, "Luella Hennessy" for her involvement in "taking care of John all through his tonsils - and for making it so reassuring for me and happy for him". Her warm letter was written only several years after the death of JFK, and John Jr was merely five years old. Tonsillectomies may have been fairly standard procedures, however during that era it required hospitalization and it was reported that she occupied an adjoining room in the hospital until his discharge. Luella had taken care of many Kennedy children, including President Kennedy in his childhood years.

A lovely Jacqueline Kennedy hand-painted and hand-written signed thank you letter with outstanding artwork. Emoting great content with perfect combination of elegance and warmth. The best we have seen.

Provenance: From the Estate of Luella Hennessey-Donovan. Luella Hennessey-Donovan was a nurse and governess to the Kennedy family for more than 50 years (1935-1963). She lived in England with the Kennedy family while Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. was ambassador to that country, caring for Robert and Edward. She tended to John F. Kennedy after his back surgery and to Senator Edward Kennedy after he broke his back in a plane crash just outside Springfield in 1964. She was present at the births of 26 of the Kennedy grandchildren. She was also the founder of the Kennedy-Donovan Center, Inc., a service organization for Massachusetts residents with developmental disabilities.
