Description:

Kennedy Jacqueline 1929 - 1994 Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy signed NINE page early autographed letter! Among the best off all Jackie letters and certainly the top early letter.

Nine page letter, heavily written in blue ink entirely in the hand of Jacqueline Kennedy. Written on her off-white "JCB" stationary, dated "Nov 12th" and signed by Jacqueline as "goodbye + all my love Jackie xxx" . Sheet size 10" x 8", with center fold. Written as "Nine" pages which Jackie hand numbered, however her letter is technically twelve scripted pages with three of the pages written across double page spreads. Expected folds, near fine condition.

A wonderful revealing letter written by a young Jacqueline to her friend named "Woodley" as part of an ongoing correspondence. Based on the context and comments of the letter, it appears Woodley is in England at the time Jackie wrote this effervescent letter containing wild gossip and social commentaries on their mutual friends, providing an incredible glimpse into the life and mind of a bright, active upper class teenage girl.

Several of her wonderful free flowing thoughts, couched in humor, include when Jackie is telling Woodley about "Baynard and Nicky" and that Baynard "He's probably just one of those people who always like the people around them - absence does not make his heart grow fonder - and I know if you were married he'd love you forever - It's just when you go away he forgets." And her gossipy comment about Nicky "Nicky said you were a wonderful girl and I agreed so heartily I'm sure he thought I was a Lesbian! He told me how hard it must be for you in Eng. + he sounded a little as though he were stepping out of the picture to make way for his brother - The rest of the time we talked about Petain + he gave me one of those deep fist-thumping views + I tried to look intelligent + nod at the right intervals - I know I'm no authority on anything - but he sounded like a little boy + was having a lovely time expounding it all to a little country urchin without really knowing what it was all about -" Further into the letter, Jackie expresses her opinions on the boys they both know confessing "Buddy, its all physical - but no one else can see it at all, and looks at me as though I'm insane or have queer glands - neither of them (Buddy or John) have kissed me - I'd upchuck if John did - and love it if Buddy did, except I wouldn't let him the first time". Jackie's exuberance about Lauren Bacall and her excited comment that "Lauren Bacall is having a baby!" quite probably places the date of this letter as late 1948 while Jackie was at Vassar college, as Bacall's first child was born in January 1949.

A highly evocative letter giving the reader a real sense of Jacqueline's personality. Perhaps even more revealing as it would be only three years before she met John Fitzgerald Kennedy. A very unique piece; early letters by Jacqueline Kennedy are quite scarce, with this one offering much detail into her life and mind.
