An lovely, personal and endearing letter by Andrew Jackson as President written to the "Honorable James Brown", in which he sends his deeply emotional and warm thoughts regarding the death of Brown's sister. He pens ""No one can better appreciate than I can the force of those regrets which the great loss you have sustained in the death of your dear sister, one co[?] to inspire; an early an intimate neighbor and friend of hers, I was long the witness of those Christian virtues that distinguished her justly. They were the cultivation of a long and useful life and endeared her to all who had an opportunity of observing their influence...." Of course Jacksons beloved wife Rachel had died nearly a year before this was written, devastating him

A boldly scripted, scarce ALS showing the very human and emotional side of President Andrew Jackson, written to James Brown, former Senator from Louisiana and U.S. Minister to France from 1824-29.
