Happy New Year!

much love

"Tom" was Thomas J. Walsh, Sr. (b. 1917), a longtime Kennedy family friend and business associate. A certified public accountant and tax expert, Walsh was hired to serve as president and treasurer of Park Agency, Inc., one of the Kennedy family's business ventures, in 1952.  Walsh oversaw the 12-person company's day-to-day operations, while serving as president of Kennedy-owned Kenoil Corporation and Mokeen Oil Company. Walsh also supervised JFK's personal financial investments, along with Jackie's, and those belonging to other Kennedy family members. Walsh retired from the Kennedy enterprises in 1979 but remained close to the family.

Family patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. had amassed his fortune through forays in banking, the stock market, real estate, natural resource excavation, and alcohol importation in the 1920s-1940s. In 1977, the New York Times estimated the Kennedy fortune at a staggering $300-500 million. Joseph P. Kennedy safeguarded his wealth by tying it up in trusts and foundations, including the John F. Kennedy Library, Robert F. Kennedy Memorial, Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation, and Special Olympics. His widow, surviving children, and grandchildren were also guaranteed lifetime incomes. Tom Walsh was one of the most trusted stewards of the Kennedy fortune.

Jackie Kennedy had married Greek businessman Aristotle Onassis in October 1968. The pair maintained several permanent residences, including Jackie's Upper East Side apartment, where the former First Lady had moved in about a year after her husband's assassination. It's unclear what "new house" Jackie is referring to as the one that Tom will visit and christen after the holiday season. Jackie and Aristotle shuttled between pied-à-terres in Manhattan, New Jersey, Paris, Athens, and the Greek Islands.
