Description:

Jackie Kennedy Three Fashion Sketches with Hand-written Notations

1p, measuring 14" x 16.75", no place, n.d. A large sheet of tracing paper with three full-length dress designs, showing the front and back and totaling six sketches total. Jackie has made the front of the dress large, while drawing the back of the dress in a smaller scale. Each sketch is numbered and has small notations next to them, written in Jackie's hand. These read "raspberry linen $527"; "yellow & white cotton ottoman $843"; and "Fond bleu - satin organdie/reconvert de guipure blanche/rebrodè $1334/ No guipure on collar or belt."

With each dress is included a fabric swatch, all measuring approximately 1.75" x 0.5", in pink linen, blue satin, and yellow woven cotton. The swatches have been stapled to the bottom, right, and left edges. The sketch paper has flattened folds and uneven toning. An area of paper loss at the top right margin and corner has resulted in a small loss of text. Else very good. From the Oleg Cassini group.

Jacqueline Kennedy became one of the most influential fashion icons of her day, known for her simple, yet chic style. She worked closely with fashion designer Oleg Cassini to create her wardrobe as First Lady and often found inspiration from French fashion magazines. Jackie studied art at l'Universite de Paris Sorbonne in Paris in 1949, having earned a position as a junior editor at "Vogue" magazine, which also influenced her style. Cassini's vision of Jackie coincided with her own, and the two would go on to successfully collaborate to establish worldwide fashion trends.
