Description:

Kennedy Jacqueline

Jackie Kennedy's "White Glove," personally owned and iconic. Stunning presentation!

Style icon Jacqueline Kennedy's favorite fashion accessory --White Gloves! This 14.5" glove comes with important, scarce provenance, having been purchased via exclusive auction, from Art Gatti, author of The Kennedy Curse (a copy his book will be included with this lot). Gatti was the doorman at the Kennedy's residence at 24 Central Park South and was also responsible for cleaning out their suite once they moved. (A copy of Mr. Gatti's signed, notarized letter stating this chain of custody and provenance will accompany this lot). The glove bears Jackie's name in blue ink on the inside wrist  "J B Kennedy". Tastefully matted with a stunning image of the first lady wearing gloves appearing as the one offered here. The signature below the glove is a photocopy of the signature found within the actual glove, shown for display purposes only.Matted to a size of 21" x 24". The glove shows signs of wear with expected even discoloration to the white leather.

Images abound gracing magazine covers and the internet which show Jackie sporting white gloves for every event - whether sophisticated Black tie evening galas, strolling about town, or in business attire of a classic cropped top suit with pillbox hat, and even while in casual garb for a weekend getaway! We see her wearing them mid-length, wrist length or even full gala length. Jackie was a fashion trend setter and idolized for her impeccable grace and sense of fashion. Jackie found White Gloves to be THE perfect finishing touch to most any outfit.

The glove was taken from the Kennedy's 24 Central Park South residence in Manhattan.  24 Central Park South was the Kennedy family's New York City residence for years. Occasionally there would be meetings in the apartment, like when Robert Kennedy met there with James Baldwin, Lena Horne, and other well-known African-American writers and artists in May of 1963, to discuss the pressing issue of racial justice. In 1982 these gloves, along with numerous other objects, were cleared from 24 Central Park South by the former owner who has had these in his possession since that time.

We have added a suite of lovely images for review and a trip down memory lane, depicting Jackie donning gloves with most every outfit during her days as First Lady.
