J.D. Salinger 1965 Content Rare Fully Signed Letter

J.D. Salinger (1919-2010). Typed Letter Signed, "JD Salinger", 1p, on The New Yorker magazine stationery, 4.5" x 7.5", Windsor, Vermont, August 13, 1965. With original transmittal envelope bearing The New Yorker logo at back flap postmarked same. Expected mailing fold and light creasing. A bit of offsetting above date. Envelope shows minor toning, neatly letter-opened at top. In fine condition.

In his letter to New Jersey resident Mary Turner, Salinger begins by thanking her for her heartening note. He replies to her questions about whether his New Yorker stories have been reprinted elsewhere, and whether they would be available to her international friends.

Salinger is likely referring to his last book publications, Franny and Zooey and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction. Although he is best known for The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger worked with The New Yorker for over two decades, beginning in 1941 and ending in 1965. Only two months prior to the author's exchange with Turner, Salinger published his final piece, the novella Hapworth 16, 1924, which appeared in The New Yorker on June 19, 1965.

Please note that portions of the letter have been electronically blurred to protect the privacy of the author and the letter's recipient. The letter itself has no redaction and is legible in full.
