Yitzhak Rabin & Shimon Peres

Israeli Premiers Yitzhak Rabin & Shimon Peres Signed Nobel Prize First Day Cover
Signed FDC
A First Day Cover commemorating the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine boldly signed by two Israeli Prime Ministers, Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres, for a total of three signatures, two in English and one in Hebrew. 5th Prime Minister of Israel Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995) has signed the cover twice, once in English as "Y. Rabin" in the address section, and once in Hebrew at lower right. 8th Prime Minister of Israel Shimon Peres (1923-2016) has signed the cover in English as "Shimon Peres" near the bottom edge. N.d., n.p. With a cachet illustration of the human brain by Urban Frank at left. Bearing five cancelled Swedish stamps celebrating the medical accomplishments of former Nobel Prize recipients in Physiology and Medicine. Minor faint scuffs on the reverse of the envelope, else near pristine. 7.125" x 4.875." Contains a multilingual (Swedish, German, English and French) insert. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Chaucer Auctions (Folkestone, UK). *Important note: please note that Chaucer Auctions misidentified Rabin's signature in Hebrew as Golda Meir's signature in Hebrew; Meir has NOT signed.

Yitzhak Rabin served as Israeli premier from 1974-1977 and from 1992 until his assassination in 1995. In both instances, he was succeeded by Shimon Peres, who served as acting prime minister in 1977 and then full-fledged prime minister from 1984-1986 and 1995-1996. Since Rabin and Peres had a very complicated relationship, it is interesting to see them co-signing this First Day Cover, and it might have related to their co-winning of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. Although the pair collaborated closely in order to broker the Israeli-Palestinian Oslo Peace Accords, Rabin and Peres were entrenched political opponents.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
