Israeli Leaders Dayan, Meir, Rabin, Peres

 

A small collection of First Day of Issue postal covers and regular issue envelopes signed by four of Israel's early political and military leaders: Moshe Dayan, Golda Meir, Yitzak Rabin, and Shimon Peres.

 

The lot is comprised of:

 

1. A regular issue envelope, ca. 1953, signed in Hebrew by Israeli military commander and politician Moshe Dayan (1915-1981) at center. The preprinted return address label as well as the hand-inscribed address panel are also in Hebrew. The envelope bears two cancelled stamps and four handstamps. Expected weathering, else very good to near fine. 6" x 4.875".

 

2. First Day of Issue postal cover signed by Golda Meir (1898-1978), the 4th Prime Minister of Israel, as "Golda Meir" at lower left. Both the preprinted cachet at lower left and the Israeli postage stamps commemorate the "Memorial Day for the Fallen of Israel’s Defense Army 1968". Postmarked in Jerusalem on April 24, 1968. Paperclip ghost impression verso, else near fine. Golda Meir served as the 4th Prime Minister of Israel between 1969-1974.

 

3. First Day of Issue postal cover signed by Israeli politician Yitzak Rabin (1922-1995) as "Y. Rabin" at right. With a large rectangular cachet and 5 cent U.S. stamp commemorating the Lions International Golden Anniversary and its "Search for Peace" essay contest. Postmarked in Chicago, Illinois on July 5, 1967. The envelope encased in plastic is mounted on a larger sheet decorated with Israeli-themed vignettes and borders. (A November 5, 1995 newspaper clipping entitled "Rabin Slain" is attached to the mount verso.) Yitzak Rabin served as the 5th Prime Minister of Israel between 1992 and his assassination in 1995.

 

4. First Day of Issue postal cover 2x signed by Israeli statesman Shimon Peres (1923-2016), once in English and once in Hebrew at center. Also inscribed by him as "To Peretz (?) Meir / with Best wishes / Shimon Peres". The envelope has a cachet of the Tel Aviv Museum at lower left. Bearing an Israeli stamp commemorating Camille Pissarro's "Landscape with Bridge", postmarked in Tel Aviv on December 22, 1970. Peres served as the 9th President of Israel between 2007-2014; prior to that, he served several non-consecutive terms as Israeli Prime Minister. 6.875" x 4".

 

This lot comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice, unless you inform us otherwise, immediately upon your receipt of invoice***

After payment has been made in full, University Archives will ship your purchase within 5 business days following receipt of full payment for item.Packages shipped internationally will have full value declared on shipping form.
