Description:

Interesting Kennedy Family Receipts from JFK's Days as President & MA Senator, 11 pcs, Including Bill Inscribed by Jackie

A small group of receipts, 11 pieces, belonging to the Kennedy Family, including one bill from Metropolitan Fuels Company pencil inscribed by future First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy (1929-1994) as "Mary - return cancelled check to Evelyn + pay bill" along the bottom. Mary Barelli Gallagher was Jackie's personal secretary, and Evelyn Lincoln was JFK's personal secretary. The invoices date from November 1958 to October 1962, thus reflecting the transition of John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) from a junior Senator from Massachusetts to 35th President of the United States. Expected wear including isolated toning and staple marks. Else very good to near fine.

The bills represent daily expenses, such as heating oil and winter clothing, but also include many luxury items. The Kennedys spent some of their disposable income on JFK's snorkel gear from Puritan Clothing Company (Hyannis, Massachusetts), and Jackie's horseback riding accessories from Stombock's Fine Riding Apparel (Washington, D.C.). Of especial interest is a bill dated November 1961 from Lord & Taylor, charged to "Mrs. John F. Kennedy / The White House / Washington D.C."

Taken as a group, the receipts also reflect the extensive geographical scope of the Kennedy Family's life and travels; they shuttled between Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Massachusetts, and received freight shipments from as far afield as Quebec and West Palm Beach, Florida.
