The Dead End Kids were a group of young actors from New York City who appeared in Sidney Kingsley's Broadway play "Dead End" in 1935. In 1937, producer Samuel Goldwyn brought all of them to Hollywood and turned the play into a film. The group included Halop, Jordan, Hall, Punsly, Dell, and Leo Gorcey, who would go on to star in six other films together, alongside James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, John Garfield, Pat O'Brien, and Ronald Reagan.

Cyd Charisse (born Tula Ellice Finklea; 1922-2008) was an American dancer and actress. Considered one of the best dancers of her generation, she starred in numerous films with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. She stopped dancing in films in the late 1950s, but continued acting in film and television. In 2006 she was presented with the National Medal of the Arts and Humanities by President George W. Bush.

Joan Crawford (1906-1977) was an American actress who began her career with MGM in the 1920s, often playing hardworking young women looking for romance. By the 1930s, her fame rivaled that of Greta Garbo, and Crawford became one of Hollywood's most prominent movie stars. However, her popularity declined in the late 1930s, and her films became known as "box office poison." She made a comeback in 1945 in the film "Mildred Pierce", for which she won an Academy Award, and eventually retired in 1970. Crawford had a strained relationship with her two eldest children, and after her death her daughter published a tell-all memoir titled "Mommie Dearest."
