Reading in full:
"I am very much obliged for your kind note of this morning, forwarding M. Boret's telegram. My work has consumed every moment of my time here and to my very great regret I have been unable to get about to call on my friends. I hope very much, however, to get to see you before I sail."

In August of 1914, Herbert Hoover and his family were living in London when war broke out in Europe. The U.S. Embassy asked Hoover to aid in helping the stranded Americans return home, and he headed the Committee of American Residents in London for Assistance to American Travelers. When the United States finally entered the First World War in 1917, Herbert Hoover was appointed head of the Commission for Relief in Belgium and tasked with leading the Food Administration. Known as the "food czar", Hoover helped feed the inhabitants of Central and Eastern Europe throughout the conflict.
