Description:

Hepburn/Henreid "Song of Love" Ephemera, 3 Pcs, Incl. Press Material

Three pieces of cinematic ephemera, ca. 1947, related to the MGM romantic drama "Song of Love" (1947), starring legendary actress Katharine Hepburn (1907-2003) as Clara Schumann, and costars Paul Henreid as Robert Schumann and Robert Walker as Johannes Brahms. Provenance: From the collection of Laura Fratti née Dubman (ca. 1925-1993), the classically trained concert pianist who had given Hepburn expert musical instruction during filming.

The lot is comprised of:

1. A Press Preview of "Song of Love." The 6pp publicity pamphlet emblazoned with the movie tagline, "A Love Story That Will Live As Long As The Music It Inspired" features sections listing the cast and crew, a montage of images from the movie, and "High Notes," a collection of human interest trivia from the movie. Expected gentle wear, else near fine. 8.5" x 11."

2. Sheet music for "As Years Go By, Based on Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 4, Inspired by the M-G-M Picture 'Song of Love'" by Charles Tobias and Peter de Rose, Miller Music Corporation, 1947. Lightly toned, with isolated edge wrinkling and a few minor closed tears, else near fine. 9" x 12.125."

3. A souvenir musical program from "Song of Love," being a 3pp printed musical program announcing Clara Wieck's "Command Performance in the Name of H.M. Augustus Fredericus II, King of Saxony… at the Pianoforte" at the Royal Opera House at Dresden. Printed on heavy cream stock paper with gold thread binding. Expected wear including gentle warping and weathering, else very good. 11" x 8.5."

Our souvenir program resembles a stage prop from the movie "Song of Love" which can be seen being held in an audience member's hands about 20 seconds before the end title (at approximately 117.30 minutes; see attached image included just for reference.) The musical line up is the same in either program, but the movie program is a darker color and features a bas relief portrait of the Schumanns on the back. Was our piece possibly an early prototype or working version of what would become the actual used stage prop? Was it perhaps a souvenir copy issued to the press?

A vibrantly colored and infinitely collectible lot of movie ephemera, perfect for any cinephile!
