Description:

Kissinger Henry

1p TLS on "Henry A. Kissinger" letterhead signed by American diplomat Henry Kissinger (born 1923) as "Henry A. Kissinger" in black felt tip pen at center. Accompanied by a custom envelope with Kissinger's Park Avenue address. Letter is in near fine condition with expected paper folds, measuring 6.25" x 8.5". The postmarked envelope shows minor weathering and is letter-opened at top.

Henry Kissinger wrote this thank you note to New York financial advisor Walter H. Markowitz on April 10, 1992. The former 56th U.S. Secretary of State wrote: "Your letter and attachments interested me greatly … As a victim of the malicious misrepresentation of '60 Minutes', I am wondering if TV Guide ever ran the story."

Kissinger was probably referring to a "60 Minutes" segment that aired just two weeks before, on March 29, 1992. The 58-minute-long program featured interviews of Henry Kissinger, H. Ross Perot, and Steven Spielberg. Kissinger had not agreed to a live interview, either because of a conflict of interest (he sat on the CBS Board of Directors at the time), or because "60 Minutes" refused to agree to his demands about the interview format. As a result, the segment was cobbled together from former interviews and public statements, with narration by Mike Wallace. Wallace's angle explored Kissinger's cushy gig as a government consultant.

Henry Kissinger escaped Nazi Germany to become a National Security Advisor, U.S. Secretary of State, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, published author, and owner of Kissinger Associates, an international consulting firm.
