Description:

Keller Helen

Helen Keller Signed Book: A Last Will, With Impeccable Provenance, and Superb Association!

Boston, Bartlett (1908)., 1908. 18 pages, 4" x 6.5". Original brown paper and orange quarter cloth boards. Originally published in Harper's Weekly in 1898 and frequently reprinted. Highly regarded for its literary beauty, this edition was published with the intent to produce a fine printing of the popular work in a handy format. SIGNED and inscribed by Helen Keller who gave the book as a gift to Josephine Fuller and included an inscription on front free end paper as "I have just read this and like it, so I am sending it to you. / Helen Keller". Adhered to the paste down is a separate letter, from the Josephine Fuller who later gifted the book, describing that Helen Keller had given it to her years ago. Letters between Helen Keller and Josephine Fuller appear in the Helen Keller archives at afb.org.  Some abrasions to the delicate paper boards, and light foxing to the end papers. Else near fine with a stunning inscription and signature by Helen Keller, with an incredible association and impeccable provenance!

Although the inscription is not dated, we know Keller lived in the Boston area from the mid 1890's to about 1917. In addition, numerous letters exist in the Helen Keller archives over a long period of time between Josephine Fuller and Helen Keller, as well as between Josephine Fuller and Anne (Sullivan). We have included a photocopy of one such 6 page letter between the two for additional association and provenance.

The letter from Josephine, who clearly had a warm and close friendship with Helen, presented the signed book as a gift and included her note as shown in full below:

"Dearest …

This little book, Helen Keller gave me many years ago - I like to send it to you for its affection lingers with her words-

The autograph you will value as well as the heart with which I pass on with my greetings for a Happy heart

Josephine Fuller"

A wonderful book personally read by Helen Keller, with a superb signed inscription by Keller. AND one which has a fantastic association and impeccable provenance!
