Harvey Fisk & Sons Broadside Announcing Imminent Payment of $18 Million Worth Government Bonds!

A small archive relating to influential American financier Harvey Fisk (1831-1890), and the history of the investment company Harvey Fisk & Sons, ca. 1885-1887. Two pieces total.

The lot is comprised of:

1. A 2pp printed broadside issued from Harvey Fisk & Sons issued on May 20, 1887 regarding the upcoming payout of "threes," that is, government bonds paid at 3%, after July 1, 1887. Printed on the first and third pages of a bifold booklet. Expected toning. The first page has darkened edges with foxing, chips, and minor closed tears. Else very good to near fine. Pencil inscribed with a previous collector's purchase notes on the blank fourth page. 8.5" x 11."

Addressed to anonymous male bank executives, the broadside reads in part: "…we believe National Banks holding the called 'Threes' would do well not to give up their circulation, but instead, replace with 4 1/2s and 4s, and can calculate on a clear profit. The amount of 'Threes' called is about $18,000,000…"

2. A 1p printed insert announcing the reorganization of Fisk & Hatch as Harvey Fisk & Sons, ca. March 26, 1885, along with its new address at 28 Nassau Street in Lower Manhattan's Financial District. Expected light transmittal folds, else near fine. Pencil inscribed with a previous collector's purchase notes verso. 5.375" x 8.375."

>Harvey Fisk, Sr. had co-founded Fisk & Hatch, the lucrative investment firm, with business partner Alfrederick Hatch (1829-1904) in 1862. That firm was dissolved in March 1885 and the company renamed Harvey Fisk & Sons. Company principals in 1885 included Harvey Fisk, Sr., Harvey Edward Fisk (1856-1944), Charles Joel Fisk (1858-1922), and Pliny Fisk (1860-1939).

All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
