A lovely poem written and signed by Harriet Beecher Stowe, novelist and author of Uncle Tom's Cabin, and supporter of anti-slavery movements and women's suffrage. Also known as the woman who Lincoln told "So you are the little woman who started this war". The poem is a copy of one stanza of a three stanza poem written by the Irish poet, Sir Thomas Moore. This was recently discovered in an attic in a family bible in a home in East Lyme, CT. The bible was printed in 1877, and signed by the original owner. The poem had been forgotten for three generations and discovered by the wife of the original owner's great grandson.

How many a tale, their music tells

Of youth & home, & that sweet time

When last I heard their soothing chimes
