Description:

Lee Harper 1926 - 2016 Harper Lee, author of To Kill A Mockingbird, laments to her friend, referring to the Bible that her life is so "Hebrews 13.8"

ALS on plain white paper, 8.5" x 11", signed "Nelle,"accompanied by her handwritten envelope, signed "Lee". Expected folds, faint stain along the bottom edge, otherwise near fine condition.

A wonderful ALS by Harper Lee, dated "13 (?) September '09 ", signed "Nelle", to her close friend and New York neighbor, Bruce Higgison. Harper Lee frequently corresponded with Bruce during her long visits back to her hometown in Alabama during which time Bruce would keep Nelle tied into the New York gossip scene, however at the time of these letters she may have moved permanently, perhaps writing from her nursing home in Alabama. Nelle lamented with Bruce stating "Time passes here with ineluctable (my favorite word these days) sameness. Nothing happens on a daily basis but I should not complain; if something did happen it would probably be unpleasant./I stuff myself with Ghirardelli chocolate squares and wonder shy I don't get fat - but it all seems to be part of what I'm caught up in - NOTHING changes! /I complain, but for no good reason - it's just Hebrews 13.8 with a vengeance./I love you! / Nelle"

A wonderful, revealing look at the very quiet last years from this Pulitzer prize winning author.
