Description:

Lee Harper 1926 - 0 Harper Lee, author of To Kill A Mockingbird, laments to her friend, referring to the bible. Her life is so "Hebrews 13.8", that even the New York papers bring her "delight."

ALS on Harper Lee's personal letterhead, double sided page, 5.25" x 7.5", signed "Nelle,"accompanied by her handwritten envelope. Near fine condition.

A wonderful ALS by Harper Lee, dated "9 October '09 ", signed "Nelle", to her close friend and New York neighbor, Bruce Higgison. Harper Lee frequently corresponded with Bruce during her long visits back to her hometown in Alabama during which time Bruce would keep Nelle tied into the New York gossip scene, however at the time of these letters she may have moved permanently, perhaps writing from her nursing home in Alabama. Nelle lamented with Bruce stating "Life here is so Hebrew 13.8 that I sometimes want to weep from, boredom. You will never know the delight the NY papers bring me-did you ever look forward to getting the Daily News + The Post?"

A wonderful revealing look at the very quiet last years from this Pulitzer prize winning author.
