Description:

Lee Harper 1926 - 0 Harper Lee, author of To Kill A Mockingbird, sends a quick note to her close friend

ALS on Harper Lee's personal letterhead, 1.5 pages, 5.25" x 7.5", signed "Nelle", accompanied with her handwritten envelope. Postal stamp of Anna Julia Cooper representing Black Heritage month. Slight handling marks, otherwise near fine condition.

A wonderful letter by Harper Lee, signed "Much love, Nelle", and dated "3 December (I think)" to her close friend and New York neighbor, Bruce Higgison. Harper Lee frequently corresponded with Bruce during her long visits back to her hometown in Alabama, during which time Bruce would keep Nelle tied into the New York gossip scene. However, at the time of these letters she may have moved permanently, perhaps writing from her nursing home in Alabama. Nelle warmly dropped Bruce a quick note stating "My own Bruce: / You will not believe this but it's true: / I had just put a small Christmas remembrance into an envelope addressed to you when you called! That is all the news I have. Much love, Nelle"

A lovely personal note from this Pulitzer prize winning author, to her friend Bruce, showing her attachment to her New York neighbor, long time friend, and frequent penpal.
