Lincoln Hannaniah (ca 1756-?) Born in reading PA. Hannaniah was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Davis) Lincoln, and the grandson of the second Mordecai. His given name has been variously spelled Hananiah, Hanniah, and Hannaniah. Even President Lincoln did not know whether it was Hannaniah or Annaniah. Hannanian was n officer in the American Revolution who fought at Brandywine under General Washington, and became a Captain in the 12th Pennsylvania Regiment. He was the first cousin of Abraham Lincoln, President Lincoln's grandfather.

Hannaniah became an early settler of Hardin Country, Kentucky where he bought large tracts of land, largely with loans from his cousin Abraham who had received 5000gbp from the sale of his Shenandoah Valley farm in Virginia. In 1787 Hannaniah married Sarah Jeffrey. As long as Abraham loaned him money they remained on good terms. After Abraham was killed by Indians, Hannaniah was substantially indebted to abrahms's estate. Since his wife, Bathsheba had no friends or other relatives, she and her five children moved to the home of Hannaniah after she became widowed. He could hardly object under these conditions. He did nothing however to repay his indebtedness. Finally the lawyer for Bathsheba's husband's estate, John Caldwell, filed a lawsuit against Hannaniah for money loaned to Hannaniah "during the lifetime of the said Abraham Lincoln, Hannaniah, by tall swearing was able to secure a verdict in his favor". In1791 Hannaniah resigned his commission in the militia and moved to Hardin County. Sometime after 1798 he moved to Spencer County, Indiana where he died.

1860 Abraham Lincoln wrote to Richard V.B. Lincoln, a distant cousin, indicating that Hannaniah Lincoln had two sons, Austin and Davis. They moved from Kentucky to Perry and Spencer Counties, Indiana a year or two before Thomas Lincoln (the President's father) took his family from Kentucky to Spencer county. MSDS,  single page, 8" x 8", Hardin County, Kentucky, 1798 Feb 7th. Very good. Moderate age toning. It is Hannaniah's Lincoln's bond Co-signed by William Keslo to George Helm, sheriff of Hardin County, in the amount of 30 pounds. The condition of the bond stipulated that Lincoln must appear in the Court in Elizabethtown "and answer the complain of Philip Rogers against himself. It was witnessed by Morris Miles, a Kentucky pioneer and Clerk of the court at this time.

A wonderful piece with a great familial association to President Lincoln.
