Three pages on State of New York Executive Chamber letterhead, 4.75" x 7.75", dated "May 1883". Expected folds with slight separation at folds. Very good, except the first page is very badly faded and illegible. Accompanied by a black and white print, laid on cardboard, of the celebratory opening of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Grover Cleveland signs a letter on New York Executive Chamber letterhead, while Governor of New York, declining a dinner and an invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the Brooklyn Bridge, which was dedicated by President Chester Arthur on May 24, 1883. The letter is addressed "My dear Sir", so it is not clear who the intended recipient is. He cites his heavy work load as the reason for declining: "The legacy left me by the late Legislature which comprises a large mass of proposed laws... and for the consideration of my time is limited..."

The signed letter is accompanied by an attractive black and white print on a cardboard backing, showing the ceremonial opening of the Brooklyn Bridge. An attractive set.
