Description:

Ground Zero Hard Hat Signed by Bush, Giuliani, Clinton, Pataki & Bloomberg

A white hard hat with "New York City / DOT" logo at front, used during the cleanup of Ground Zero at New York's destroyed Twin Towers, and signed by 46th U.S. President George W. Bush (b. 1946) as "to Michael / Best Wishes / George Bush", 107th Mayor of New York City Rudolph Giuliani (b. 1944) as "Rudy Giuliani", 53rd Governor of New York George Pataki (b. 1945) as “George Pataki”, United States Senator from New York Hillary Rodham Clinton (b. 1947) as "Hillary Rodham Clinton", and 108th Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg (b. 1942) as “Michael Bloomberg”. Reflective tape at sides and back. Inside portion of hard hat has been removed. NYC Transit decal at back is intact, but scratched. Some ink skipping to signatures, although they remain completely legible. Expected soiling and wear, overall in very good plus condition. Includes Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA for all five signatures..

Other than Michael Bloomberg, all of the signers on this hard hat were in office during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

On the ill-fated day of September 11, 2001, four commercial airliners were hijacked by nineteen terrorists recruited and trained by Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network. While one captured aircraft hit the Pentagon and another, diverted by heroic passengers, crashed in a Pennsylvania field, the other two, which had taken off from Boston, hit the twin towers of New York's World Trade Center. Nearly 3,000 people died at and around the World Trade Center, including over 400 emergency responders.

The process of cleanup and recovery at Ground Zero took a total of eight months, with rescue and recovery workers working 24 hours a day. The remains of all the other buildings in the World Trade Center were demolished. And finally, by the end of May 2002, the last piece of steel was ceremonially removed.
