Edison Thomas 1847 - 1931

A handsome signature and gorgeous period photograph of Thomas Edison at work with one of his most important inventions!

His signature, "Thomas A Edison," accomplished on a 3.5" x 2.25" card. Very fine condition. Matted together with a large and attractive photograph of Edison seated at his secretary, dictating notes into one of his Graphophone dictation machines, a 13.25" x 10.5" silver print by Pack Brothers, New York, 108. A few minor scratches and dings to emulsion, else very good. Beautifully framed to 18.75" x 18".

A fine, bold example of his signature, offered with one of the more famous images of Edison, posing with a voice dictation machine he styled as the Graphophone. Edison developed his first phonographs in 1877, and many who licensed his patent intended to use the device, which could play and record sound, for entertainment purposes. Edison, however produced his own commercial phonographs for the purpose of office dictation.
