Grace Kelly gossips about Hollywood to Richard Gully

Single page autograph letter signed on light grey stationary decorated with the embossed Princely Flag of Monaco, a pure white emblem with the Monegasque coat of arms in the center. 8.25" x 10.5". Dated "June 13th" (1958), and signed by Princess Grace as "Grace". Accompanied by the original autographed postal mailing envelope,  8" x 3", postmarked '13-6, 1958'  (June 13th, 1958). Both in fine condition.

A lovely letter written by Princess Grace on two years after leaving Hollywood to marry Prince Rainier and begin her duties as Princess of Monaco. However her short acting career from 1950-1956 took off like a rocket, and by 1953 she gained stardom from her performance in Mogambo starring Clark Gable and Ava Gardner winning her a Golden globe Award and an Academy Award nomination in 1954. Subsequently, she had leading roles in five films, including The Country Girl (1954) with Bing Crosby, for which her deglamorized performance earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. Other films include High Noon (1952) with Gary Cooper, Dial M for Murder (1954) Rear Window (1954) with James Stewart, To Catch a Thief  (1955) with Cary Grant and High Society with Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra.

Her rich history with Hollywood was no doubt her connection to Richard Gully, the recipient of this letter. Gully had worked for Jack Warner of Warner Brother Studios for years and as a Hollywood insider would journalistically relay the hottest insider Hollywood gossip. Gully was even known to have said about himself  "I've always been at the right place, and known the right people at the right time," he said. "I was in Hollywood during the Golden Age. I started out as a glamour boy and ended up a distinguished old man." In fact Richard Gully's deep ties and association with royalty, and the swells of society and Hollywood, gave him an entree to places, people and contacts — even with those who had (der fuhrer's) private phone number — which he used to save friends from their finales in camps.

This revealing letter shows how the gossip starts, the dropping of Hollywood names, and the comfort level Grace had with  Gully.

"Dear Richard,

So sorry to hear of your split with Jack Warner - but I sincerely hope that your new association will be a happy one ..

I know what you mean about Cannes Festivals - utter madness!

Hope you have fun in Paris - please telephone when you are here in July-

Monte Carlo is very gay this week-end with the premiere + Gala for Sinatra's new film- He is here with the Peter Lawfords and Frank Rosses-

Warmest regards,

Grace"

A fantastic letter from the Golden age of Hollywood!
