Simon Snyder (1759-1819) was elected the third Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and served three terms from 1808 to 1817. He strongly supported the War of 1812 and helped lead Pennsylvania through the war. This support briefly led to him being considered as a possible running mate for James Madison in the election following the war, but this never came to fruition.
