Gordon Cooper Signed MR-3 Freedom 7 Post-flight Debriefing of Alan B. Shepard
TM
Astronaut Gordon Cooper's copy of an MR-3 Freedom 7 post-flight debriefing report of Alan B. Shepard. NASA Space Task Group, dated 1961. Inscribed and signed at the top of the first page by Cooper: "From my Mercury Files, Gordon Cooper, Mercury Astronaut." 102pp, measuring 8" x 10.5",With light edge toning. Unbound, with a prior staple having been removed. Some rust soiling around where staple used to be. Boldly signed.

The report is in three parts, with part one listing all planned questions to be asked of Shepard; part two is a transcript of Shepard's initial debrief immediately after the flight on the recovery aircraft carrier; and part three is a transcript of Shepard's full debrief at Grand Bahama Island on May 6, 1961.

In his debrief, Shepard makes note of his pilot performance, capsule engineering issues, photography, and operational procedures. During the morning session debrief on May 6, the Interrogators note that a section of the debriefing recorded on the carrier is missing, to which Shepard remarks: "…I think what happened was this; we had to break to answer a phone call. I think you might be a little upset about it but since the phone call was from no less than the Presiden, we thought you might allow us to break to go for a little chat…"

He concludes his final debrief saying "I would like to indicate at this time that I had a very enjoyable trip. I think that the training program was indeed satisfactory. I think that we're proceeding along the right lines in this area, and that I have enough strength left for an orbital flight. I hope I have the opportunity to make one."
