In part:

"While we were in Palm Springs Betty and I learned of Tom's passing and needless to say, we were very deeply saddened. You have lost a wonderful husband and father and we have lost a dear and invaluable friend.

Our hearts go out to you and your daughters. But the memory of Tom's great accomplishments and contributions to our nation must surely be a comfort…"

A kind and sensitive letter showing President Ford still remembered his Midwestern roots.
