George Washington Congress Act For His Salary! 1794

Imprint signed in type “Go: Washington” as President, “John Adams” as Vice-President, and “Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg” as Speaker of the House, three pages, front and verso, 8" X 13.25" conjoined. Philadelphia: 1794. Disbound, tiny thread holes at edge, lightly soiled at the upper right corner of the first page. Fine condition.

In part: “Be it enacted...That for defraying the expenditure of the civil-list of the United States...together with the incidental and contingent expenses of the several departments...and for other purposes, there be appropriated a sum of money not exceeding five hundred and twenty one thousand four hundred and forty seven dollars and twenty four cents; That is to say: For the compensation granted by law to the President and Vice-President of the United States, thirty thousand dollars: For the like compensations of the members of the Senate and House of Representatives, their officers and attendants, estimated for a session of six months continuance, one hundred and eighty five thousand, eight hundred and ninety dollars...For the compensations granted by law, to the chief justice, associate judges, district judges, and attorney general, forty three thousand two hundred dollars...”

Included in the act are compensation to the Commissioner of Revenue, Director of the Mint, “governors, secretaries and judges of the territory north west, and the territory south of the river Ohio,” payment of $2500 “for payment of the annual allowance granted by Congress to Baron Steuben,” and allowance for “the maintenance and repair of light houses, beacons, piers, flakes and buoys...” President Washington approved this act on March 14, 1794. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice, unless you inform us otherwise, immediately upon your receipt of invoice***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
