King George III appointment of a Captain countersigned by former and future Prime Minister, 3rd Duke of Portland, great-great-great grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II

GEORGE III (1738 - 1820) Partly Printed Document Signed "George R" as King and "Portland" as Home Secretary, 1p, 14.75" x 12". Court At St. James's, March 11, 1795. On heavy rippled vellum. Transparent paper covers verso. Blue paper seal at left. Very good condition.

King George III appoints James Atty "Captain of a Company in the Whitly Corps of Volunteers commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Henry Walker Yeoman, but not to take Rank in Our Army except during the time of the said Corps being called out into actual Service..."

Countersigned by William Cavendish-Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland (1738-1809), who served as Home Secretary from 1794-1801 when he became Lord President of the Council. Lord Portland was Prime Minister under George III from April 2, 1783 to December 19, 1783, and from 1807-1809. Portland is the great-great-great grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II whose mother was the daughter of Cecilia Cavendish-Benti
