George H.W. Bush SP as Yale University First Baseman!

8" x 10" black and white glossy photograph, with vintage metallic finish, of future 41st U.S. President George H.W. Bush (born 1924) in Yale University baseball uniform signed by him as "George Bush" in black felt tip pen lower center. In very good condition, labeled "1st Base - George Bush - Yale University" in black lettering along bottom margin. The studio photograph, depicting Bush lounging on a fence against a painted backdrop, is mounted on white foam core. Overall size measuring 14" x 18".

George H.W. Bush attended Yale University on the G.I. Bill between 1946 and 1948, where the former Navy pilot enrolled in an accelerated undergraduate program. "Poppy" Bush had an active extracurricular life on campus, becoming involved in a fraternity, the baseball team, and the cheer leading squad. Bush led the Yale University Baseball team to two College World Series as its left-handed first baseman and team captain. In 1948, Captain Bush met Babe Ruth when the retired "Sultan of Swat" presented a manuscript copy of his memoirs to Yale University Library. Bush was a solid outfielder and hitter, but most importantly, a leader.

George H.W. Bush remembers his days as an intercollegiate athlete with fondness. In a January 2015 interview with Yale Sports, Bush said that he learned "the importance of teamwork, and working hard together towards a common goal" on the Yale baseball team. He added: " ... I would encourage each and every young man who might attend Yale and play ball to do the same things my mother (Dorothy) taught me a million years ago: do your best, share credit, focus on the team. It's not fancy, but it worked for me."

Bush applied lessons learned on the baseball diamond to his later political life: as a Texan politician, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Chief Liaison Officer to China, CIA Director, Vice President, and President of the United States.

An impeccable signed photograph of future U.S. President George H.W. Bush during his college days!
