This small archive includes correspondence regarding the Massachusetts militia, in which Thomas Lincoln of Taunton served as an officer, and a series of promissory notes that Lincoln signed during the 1820s.

"You are directed to call your company together on Monday the fourth of June 2 OClock afternoon, for the purpose of choosing one Lieut & one Ensign to officiate instead of those that has moved out of the vicinity."
"You are requested to make your returns to me by the 25th of this month, without fail; I've sent you Blanks for that purpo[se] by [?] Stephn Hall Jun; Probabally you have recd them. you are to warn your company at least ten days before the choice."

Samuel Bates (1783-1837) was a tinsmith in Cohasset.

Tower & Souther was a partnership between Abraham H. Tower (1801-1881) and Laban Souther (1800-1860). Tower's father, Abraham Tower (1752-1832), was a participant in the Boston Tea Party of 1773.

Thomas Lincoln (1759-1836) was born in Taunton, Massachusetts. In 1784, he married Esther Newland (1766-1836), and they had 12 children between 1785 and 1812. He was a justice of the peace for many years and a member of the board of selectmen for Taunton from 1812 to 1821. He represented Taunton in several conventions and in the General Court in 1815-1816. He served as a private in Captain Snow's company during the Revolutionary War. He became the captain of a militia company in 1791 and was commissioned a major in 1795. From 1805 to 1809, he held the ranks of lieutenant colonel and colonel. During the Embargo of 1807, he was in command of the 3rd regiment of the Bristol County Brigade as a lieutenant colonel. In May 1809, he was commissioned brigadier general of the Bristol County Brigade and held that position until resigning in 1814. He died in Norton, Massachusetts.

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with a signature required option, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third-Party Shipping Option: If a third-party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third-party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third-party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third-party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
