(MILITARIA) Medal, approximately 1" high, 1.25" wide mounted on a 1.25" high anchor. A Maltese cross bordered in white, with symbols including crossed swords and an anchor are on each of the four red elements of the medal. A circular half-inch diameter blue disc is mounted in the center of the cross with "1812" in gilt, surrounded by 18 stars representing the 18 states in the Union at the time of the War of 1812. A suspension ring attaches the medal to the red-white-blue ribbon with red dampstains. A brooch pin is attached to the ribbon. Partially 18k or 14k gold.

Founded on September 14, 1814, the General Society of the War of 1812 traces its origins to the huge collection of American militia companies which were called to meet the British thrust at Baltimore following the occupation of the National Capital.
