General George Custer boldly signed envelope, PSA/DNA slabbed



PSA/DNA slabbed envelope boldly signed by George Custer and addressed to his wife as "Mrs. Genl. Custer / 339 Penn Avenue / Washington D.C." and graded Mint 9!

 

Envelope is affixed with two rose 3 cent George Washington stamps postmarked with target cancel.  Mailed from the nation's capital sometime during the 1860s (possibly April 26, 1864.) Buff colored envelope in very good condition, with expected weathering and wear, measuring 5.375" x 3.25". The slab measures 7.125" x 4.25".

 

George Armstrong Custer (1839-1876) addressed this envelope to his beloved wife Elizabeth Bacon Custer (1842-1933). Custer served with the Michigan Brigade during the Civil War, securing no fewer than 12 long-term and brevet promotions between 1861-1865, including the rank of Brigadier General in 1863 and the rank of Major General in 1865. After the Civil War, Custer served in Texas and the American West; he was killed at the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876.
