Description:

Gemini IV
n.p., ca. June 1965
Gemini 4 Limited Ed. EVA Astronaut Pin Made of Flown Silver
Relic
An expertly crafted EVA Astronaut pin made from sterling silver flown aboard the Gemini 4 mission by Command Pilot Jim McDivitt. Together with an additional triangle of flown sterling silver to serve as a before and after. The pin has been engraved with the limited edition numbering 6 of 7 on verso. Each piece has been housed in a 1.5" square protective case, with the pin measuring approximately .75" in length and the triangle segment .5" at longest edge. Two very fine examples. Accompanied by a photocopy of McDivitt's original COA, as well as an additional COA from The Space Collective Ltd.

Provenance: Originally from the collection of Gemini 4 Command Pilot Jim McDivitt. The sterling silver, originally in plate form, was melted down and cast into these exquisitely detailed pins, with the remaining silver being divided into triangles and included with each pin as a before and after. The Gemini Capsule is cast entirely from the flown silver, but the pin spike and pin back are made from un-flown silver, so they can be removed or replaced if damaged without sacrificing any of the historic flown silver.

In June 1965, history was made when astronaut Ed White became the first American astronaut to conduct a spacewalk during the Gemini IV mission. While outside the Gemini capsule, White used the Hand-Held Self-Maneuvering Unit (HHSMU), informally known as the Zap Gun, to maneuver. As White maneuvered around the spacecraft's exterior, his fellow astronaut and crew mate, Jim McDivitt, took photographs of the famous spacewalk, which were published worldwide.
