Gemini 4 Flown Astronaut & Capsule Pins, Crafted from Sterling Silver Aboard Craft, With Piece of Flown Silver, Ex: Jim McDivitt
Relic

A pair of expertly crafted and highly detailed EVA Astronaut and Gemini capsule pins cast from sterling silver flown aboard the famous Gemini 4 mission by Command Pilot Jim McDivitt. The pins measure approximately .75" and are handsomely presented in a solid Lucite block measuring 3" x 4" x 2.75". The Lucite has been engraved at the base with authentication from The Space Collective Ltd. Additionally, each pin is numbered on the reverse along with the company's logo using a high-precision laser.

The silver from which these pins were made came directly from the collection of Gemini 4 Command Pilot Jim McDivitt. The sterling silver, originally in plate form, was melted down and cast into these exquisitely detailed pins. The EVA Astronaut and Gemini Capsule are cast entirely from the flown silver, with the silver wire connecting them being made from un-flown silver.

Accompanied by a small piece of flown sterling silver from the Gemini IV mission. measuring 0.375" x 0.375". Housed in a small plastic encapsulation case. The silver was carried by astronaut Jim McDivitt in a small pouch during the Gemini IV mission. Together with two COAs, one signed by McDivitt and one signed by the Director of The Space Collective Ltd.

In June 1965, history was made when astronaut Ed White became the first American astronaut to conduct a spacewalk during the Gemini IV mission. While outside the Gemini capsule, White used the Hand-Held Self-Maneuvering Unit (HHSMU), informally known as the Zap Gun, to maneuver. As White maneuvered around the spacecraft's exterior, his fellow astronaut and crew mate, Jim McDivitt, took photographs of the famous spacewalk, which were published worldwide. Interestingly, the photographs showed Ed White wearing an Omega Speedmaster chronograph watch on his spacesuit sleeve—something that Omega was unaware of until the photographs were published.

James Alton McDivitt (1929-2022) was an American test pilot, United States Air Force (USAF) pilot, aeronautical engineer, and NASA astronaut in the Gemini and Apollo programs. He was selected to join NASA as part of Astronaut Group 2 in 1962, and he commanded the Gemini 4 mission, during which Ed White performed the first U.S. spacewalk. McDivitt later commanded the Apollo 9 flight, which was the first crewed flight test of the Apollo lunar module.
