Description:

Roosevelt Franklin 1882 - 1945 Franklin Roosevelt reaches out to his Harvard classmates for the 25th anniversary reunion
TLS on Harvard Class of 1904, Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Reunion letterhead, 8.5" x 11". Dated "May 23, 1929", and signed by Franklin Roosevelt as "Franklin D. Roosevelt". Expected folds with light toning, near fine.

A lovely early signed typed letter. Franklin Roosevelt as 34th President of the Harvard Alumni association, solicits his graduating class of Harvard to both participate in their 25th class Reunion and also to offer contributions to cover the class gift to the University and the cost of the Reunion. Roosevelt was very active with Harvard, his Alma mater. In 1880 he became a member of Phi Beta Kappa, in 1903 he was elected President of the Harvard Crimson, and then in 1910 he served as the 34th President of the Harvard Alumni association. In this TLS Roosevelt displays his already resounding ability to pull people together requesting " ‰Û_ this Twenty-fifth Anniversary is, by tradition, the most important that will be held during our lives as Harvard graduates. It will mean everything to us to have a large attendance ‰Û_ the Committees are anxious for the prompt return of Questionnaires ‰Û_ already 234 Classmates have signified their intention of coming with their families ‰Û_ Secondly, may I join in the appeal which has just been made to you by Jim Jackson in asking for a contribution to enable our Class to complete the necessary sum to cover both the gift to the University of $150,000, and the expenses of the Reunion"

A lovely letter, full of camaraderie, neatly signed in full by Franklin Roosevelt.
