Frank Lloyd Wright Correspondence "N.B. Damn politics" and "All experts are an ass?"
TLS

Frank Lloyd Wright (1868-1959). Small archive consisting of four typed letters signed on Taliesin West and Taliesin letterhead, 8.5" x 11", one annotated by hand, to architect Aaron Green (1917-2001), his California representative. Pages show varying degrees of toning and the expected flattened mail folds, with one displaying a slight water spot to the signature but else all boldly signed.

Correspondence are dated between 1954-1957 and concern various projects in California in the mid-1950s, including the fate of the site of the never-built Sea Cliff home for the Morris family of San Francisco and the Oboler Complex in Malibu, California, which was lost in 2018 in the Woolsey Fire that ravaged Malibu that year.

Includes the following:

1) "Dear Aaron: The very good apricots 'am all gone, suh'.
Your good letter contents noted. Better hang on to Oboler for a fee and to help.
Give my best to all the folks --
Affection,
Frank Lloyd Wright
N.B. Damn politics. November 4, 1954"

2) "Dear Aaron: The complete Lenkurt is being sent to you to deliver to them. The first half of commission is now rendered. A check for the first payment as agreed now due. A letter from them accepting them will bring the clerical plans within a reasonable time.

Affection,
Frank Lloyd Wright

March 3rd, 1956

N.B. I am sending the final sketches made for the Morrises. They are so good on the whole I think we should find some San Franciscan to buy the property and build the three places at one time. A superb investment and a fine idea. Notice the high retaining wall is a sloping bank and the low wall a sloping arm only of the lower part of the bank. The three lots if handled this way should yield a high return. Can you think of somebody?"

3) "Dear Aaron: [in autograph notation "To repeat"] Concerning the Morris ocean lot: I believe the three lots made available now by bulldozer and the ocean ought to attract some San Franciscan? The Morrises have no use for it now and should accept [in autograph notation "at most"] a low two-lot price for the whole thing. There are no retaining walls now and only a small elevator shaft "a la silo." [quotations in autograph notation]

Can you think of anyone? Anyhow, keep it in mind. I am sending the originals to you to show prospects. You can have another set of prints made and return the originals - in due course. [In autograph notation "Jean has just reminded me of a letter from a San Fransiscan - you might see - address - herewith --"]

Affectionately,
Frank Lloyd Wright

4) "Dear Aaron: For some reason the Pace people sent you a copy of the communication concerning a model of the main light fixture. Kindly take up the matter with Lenkurt and see if they will authorize the expense. All experts are an ass?

Affection,
Frank Lloyd Wright
