Description:

Frank Borman Signed NASA Apollo 8 Mission Report

A NASA Apollo 8 Mission Report signed by Apollo 8 Commander Frank F. Borman II (born 1928), as "Frank Borman" along the bottom. The printed booklet was published ca. January 1969. Triple hole punched along the left edge, the holes reinforced with transparent plastic hole protectors. A few isolated wrinkles and/or ghost paper clip impressions mostly affecting the top, else clean and crisp. 4pp. 8" x 10.375."

The booklet was issued about one month after the conclusion of the Apollo 8 space mission (December 21 - 27, 1968). It provides a concise summary of mission achievements, with booklet subheadings such as: "Into the Lunar Corridor," "Leaving Lunar Orbit," "Live Telecasts from Space," and "Problems Only Minor."

The 3-person Apollo 8 crew, comprised of Commander Borman, Command Module Pilot Jim A. Lovell, Jr. (born 1928), and Lunar Module Pilot William A. Anders (born 1933), made the first recorded orbit around the Moon, and witnessed the first Earthrise. Borman had been to space three years earlier, as the Command Pilot of Gemini 7. The highlight of that December 4 - 18, 1965 mission had been the first space rendezvous orchestrated between two spacecraft, Gemini 7 and Gemini 6A, on December 15, 1965. At one point, the two spacecraft were as little as 12" apart!
